Crochet Mug Cozy

This easy crochet mug cozy is the perfect pattern for using up your stash yarn. Its also quick enough to make a unique gift to cheer up a friend. Adding an appliqué to this straightforward pattern gives it a fun dimension . Try a heart like me, a favourite animal or a letter of the alphabet. You could also dabble with surface crochet if you’re feeling even more adventurous.

Getting Started

First we will need to measure the height, circumference and handle height of your mug.

Mug Cozy Pattern

Foundation: Ch multiples of 2 + 1 to required length (Height). (Ch17)

Row 1: Dc in 3rd loop from hook, sc in same stitch, sk next st, *dc & sc in next st, sk next st*, repeat from * to * to end, ch2, turn. (7 dc/sc clusters)

Row 2: Sk 1st St, sc in same stitch, sk next st, *dc & sc in next st, sk next st*, repeat from * to * to end, ch1, turn.

Repeat Row 2 until you reach desired length (circumference), do not fasten off. (45 rows)

Handle Loops

2 sc in 1st stitch, chain to length of handle + 2 ch (3 if you crochet tightly), 2 sc in last stitch.  (Ch 14)

Cut yarn, fasten off and weave in ends.

Rejoin at opposite end and repeat.

Well Done
